"My music hits me..so hard..makes me say, Oh my Lord...."

(MC Hammer)

Run - 5 miles total.  2 miles run from University City down to center city .60 mile doing an errand, then I planned on walking the rest back until this song came on....

...and I got a sudden adrenaline shot and ran another mile before walking the last as a cool down.  I was hammer dancing back up Walnut Street and didn't care who was looking.  Runs like this are awesome.

Today was the hottest day so far this year, and I really enjoyed spending some quality time out doors.

Highlights of the run:
1) Saw this sign on South St.

2) Looking at apartments.  Whenever I run downtown, I like to always check out the different areas I could live in.  I plan on moving to center city before my 6th year of pharmacy school (this time next year), so I like to look at the different complexes and see which ones look cool.  Today I came across some nice looking ones.

3) Saw a very pregnant Chinese woman with a T-shirt that said "Made in the USA with Chinese ingredients."

4)  Rittenhouse Square was absolutely packed.  I'm glad everyone in the city was taking advantage of this beautiful day.

Did any of you guys enjoy the beautiful weather today?

Post New Years Recovery

Happy 2011 everyone!  I hope you all had a fun and safe night!

Last night was a good time, but I am paying for it today.  Perhaps I had a little too much champagne?

Today was full of rest and cleaning up.  I took an off day for exercise.

Lunch was Wendy's...not healthy stuff either :-)  But it was really delicious.  I haven't had fast food in months.  Sometimes a burger is just an all American classic that must be enjoyed.

Dinner tonight is probably going to be Chinese food.  I'm still in recovery mode so no food shopping was done today.  Chinese used to be one of my favorite things to get, and I would get it a lot.  Three times a month maybe?  Possibly more?  I just realized that since starting the blog, I haven't ordered Chinese take-out.  Small victory?  I think so.  Steamed pork dumplings are my all time favorite.  I would love to figure out how to make them myself.  If anyone has any expertise in this area please share your recipes!

Yesterday and today there were some good fitness deals at groupon.com.  Today I bought a month of unlimited Boot Camp classes from Real World Strength Coach, which look kind of intense, for $39.  I may wait till summer to do it so I can use it as much as I can and get my money's worth out of it.  Or maybe I'll do it to get ready for bikini season.  Luckily it doesn't expire for a year so I have plenty of time to decide.  If you live in Philadelphia it's a 92% off discount and an amazing deal.  It's a pretty intimidating class, but I figured why not give it a shot?

Yesterday's offer (which I was going to put up for you guys, but I forgot to before it was taken down) was 5 yoga classes at Philly Power Yoga for $25.  I go to that yoga studio anyways, and the deal was definitely a bargain.

I am looking forward to accomplishing all my resolutions this year!
Did you guys make any resolutions for 2011?  What were they??

Running through Rush-hour!

Today was my first experience running with a running group! It was a huge success!  We ran 3 miles through center city.  Starting off at Rittenhouse Square, we went over and down to love park, around city hall, over to Washington Square, and back up to Rittenhouse Square.

Waiting for the group by the fountain in Rittenhouse!

It was COLD!.  23 degrees outside means well below freezing! I took a little chilly pre-run photo shoot before the group got there.
cold but happy

cold but goofy

ok, seriously its cold.
Towards the end of the run I had definitely had warmed up!!!  I took off my gloves and even opened up my jacket a little.  Unfortunately, during the walk home from the trolley stop I was back to being cold.  :-(

Now I am hungry, and I am going to go get my study on!  2 more finals to go before some MUCH needed time off.  Happy Wednesday!

Edit:  Here is my route on a map.  Seems kinda long when I look at it like this.  I'm glad I got to cover a good amount of the city today by foot!

Solid 3 miles in the city!

Prep Homecoming

Last night was the Barry family's first triple date!!  We all went to Prep Homecoming (my brother's high school) where parents and alumni are welcome to attend as well.  Since Joe is an alumni, we all went!  The alumni and parents were in a different section of the school where there was an awesome buffet and an open bar!  Unfortunately, my camera was on the fritz so I didn't get any pictures of the food.  But my mom luckily emailed me some pictures from her camera of the evening.

For a mental picture the buffet included
- green beans
- salad with vinigarette dressing
- beef and pork
- fancy mac and cheese
- rolls
- roasted potatoes

There were also baby quiches and fried raviolis for appetizers, and a chocolate fountain for dessert.  Needless to say a great spread of food.
Just got off work and am going to do the elliptical, clean the apartment, and make some dinner!  Lots to do!

Hot date.

Joe and I have both been so busy recently that tonight we went on a much needed and enjoyed date night!  We went to New Deck Tavern in University City which is a great restaurant we both love.  Both of us love that Irish Pub feel of New Deck and the food is bangin too.

After enjoying a delicious dinner out we walked downtown to the Roxy movie theater and saw Due Date.  It was cute and pretty funny.  I give it 3.5 stars out of 5.  I liked it, but it didn't have me laughing out loud.  As we walked over the Schuylkill River, I took some cool photos.  I was loving how there was such a distinct reflection of the the buildings and lights from the bridges in the water.  I love this area, and I often go running down it.  It definitely has a much different feel at nighttime.

I really hope I am not feeling sick when I wake up tomorrow after a good nights sleep.  I want to have a productive day and get a good workout in.
