Mother's Day

This morning started off with a bang....or at least a loud buzzing.  The alarm went off at 8 and that all too familiar confusion hit me.  Why am I getting up at 8?  Do I have class?  Work? A test? Oh Spinning.....wait what time is the class?  I think I'm developing morning-time alzheimers.

I got my butt up and went to an 80 minute spinning class.  It was a great sweaty ride, and I was extra happy when at the end of the class the instructor told us that we have just burned about 1200 calories!  Win!  I am always extra proud of myself when I get in an awesome workout before I normally would have been awake.

Breakfast was extra delicious after such a big burn.  I stopped by Wawa on my way home, and I got their heathier breakfast sandwich (egg whites, turkey sausage, and cheese on a bagel) and a french vanilla coffee.  Wawa coffee is by far my favorite, if you live near a Wawa please check it out.  You won't be sorry.  When I got back to the apartment I paired my breakfast with 1/2 of a grapefruit that I snagged from the spa the other day where I used my groupon for a massage.  Near the elevator was a basket of fruit, and I knew I could use a grapefruit since my fridge has been empty for weeks.  Food shopping tomorrow = finally being able to cook my own food.  Can't wait!  No time for groceries during finals...

So, today is Mother's Day and I wanted to wish my mom a very happy Mother's Day!
She's my best friend, my biggest fan, my number one supporter, and my teacher.

She tries to teach me about sports, and I teach her about the Real Housewives...and she always makes sure that I have head to toe apparel for our favorite teams

She stands on the sidelines and cheers me on
She takes on challenges with me like our first 5K
And our second...
She encourages me to do my best in school...even when it means I look like this...crazy eyes, glasses, calculator, dirty hair under headband...who has time to shower during finals anyways?
And be makes sure that I never leave the house in a dress that doesn't "lay right" because she's always looking out for my best interest..and doesn't want me to look my a fatty.

She's basically the best
Thanks Mom for everything you do!  I love you and appreciate it all!

What are you all doing to celebrate Mother's Day?

We are doing dinner tonight!  Can't wait!

Two Salad Day

Today was a great and long day!  It started out with a spinning class at Body Cycle Studio. Loved it.  I was sweating bullets and felt like it was a really great workout.  Spinning was over at noon, but Lululemon is having complimentary Bikram Yoga Classes every Saturday at 1pm until July so I wanted to take advantage of that.

Lululemon tank top and sweat band (Don't mind the unmade bed please)
I had an hour to kill so I moseyed on over to Saladworks to get a fresh and filling salad.  I was going to try out this little vegetarian place that I passed by, but it was closed.  Another time.

So fresh and delicious
I was a little scatter brained when I left the house this morning, and I completely forgot to grab my yoga bag with a mat and towel.  It was kind of an old mat that I wasn't crazy over, so I used this as an excuse to get a new one.  I stopped by LuluLemon on my way to Bikram and grabbed a simple back mat and a teal yogi toes (skidless yoga towel which I had been eyeing up for a while).  I really liked them both!

My Bikram class was very nice.  I used to do Bikram for a while during my freshman year of college, but I fell out of it since going downtown regularly took up a lot of my time.  I remembered the poses, and I didn't think the class was too difficult.  I definitely took it easy and didn't push it too hard because my right foot is still not quite up to par.

I spent the rest of the afternoon in my home town.  My mom and I went to get our nails done, then I went out to dinner with my parents.  We went to an old favorite Winner's Circle.  I got my favorite salad...and it was scrumptious...

Mandarin Teriyaki Chicken Salad
Sometimes you just are having a two salad day kind of day.  I think day 1 of my healthy summer challenge was a success.

Day 1

Today is Day 1 of Shannon's summer shape up (just thought of that name...might stick with it or it might change).  Just to give you a picture of what finals did to me, I haven't been sleeping regularly at all, I've been eating take out of restaurant food for almost every meal, and I haven't been working out regularly due to a stress induced cold.

My cold is going away now that finals are over, and today is the first day of my plan to put fitness and health as my number one priority this summer.  I majorly need to get back on the healthy eating bandwagon.  One thing that I am hoping doesn't hold me back this summer is the fact that since the Broad Street Run last Sunday, my foot has not been feeling right.  I have no clue what is wrong with it, but it honestly hurts to walk on it, so I can't imagine running on it.  I have a doctors appointment next week, but until then I am just going to try and do things that are not high impact on it.

What is up for today: 50 minute Spinning Class (with a spinning instructor that I have never tried before) and 90 minutes of Bikram Yoga.  I have done Bikram before, and today I am doing it as part of LuLuLemon's complimentary weekend yoga.  This is their new Studio of the quarter, and I couldn't be more excited!  It takes place in a room that is heated, very very hot, and its a series of the same poses every time.  I'm really excited to get back on my yoga game this summer because this semester I definitely have fallen off that bandwagon.  Not enough time in the day...until now.  Now I've thankfully got nothing but time!

Since I was busy with school, I didn't have time to set new May goals or evaluate how I did with my April goals.

April Goals were:
- Drink more water - I tried, but I could definitely make a more conscious effort to do this one.
- Work on my running - I did this, and ended up meeting all of my goals for the Broad Street Run
- Give School my total focus - I DEFINITELY did this.  I worked really hard all the way through my last final, and I'm hoping when the grades are final it will all pay off.
- Continue Working out 4x per week - For the most art I did get in 4 weekly workouts even with the craziness of the end of the year.

Instead of setting May goals I think I am going to set some summer goals.  I really want to think long and hard about what I hope to accomplish.  I'll be sure to let you all know!

Also, last night I saw the movie "Something Borrowed."  It's super cute.  You should all go see it.

Relief!

Today ended one long year of pharmacy school!  Yay!  It didn't really even hit me until Joe said to me, "You're a 5th year now!"  Wow...I've been in pharmacy school for that long?  I remember thinking that 5th year would never get here.  I decided to celebrate the start of my 4 month break by using a groupon that I had previously purchased for a massage downtown.  It was just what the doctor ordered!

I have a lot of plans for this summer, both travel plans and personal goals that I am hoping to accomplish.  I'll have to save that for another post though because I am going to go to Happy Hour and celebrate Cinco de Mayo (one day late!)  Better late than never right?

Productive day hopes

Hello world! I'm writing this blog post downtown from cosi on my iPad. I love technology :-)

I just finished an amazing spin class with my new favorite spinning instructor, Russell. I got a great sweat in which was just what the doctor ordered. Since I was resting my legs a few days before broad street and then again a few days after, I was craving a really great workout. It was also a bonus that I got it out of the way first thing in the morning. And I wore my broad street run tech tee and felt really cool..hey look at me I can run 10 miles kind of cool.

Today is the "reading day" during my school's finals week. That means that no finals can be scheduled on this day to try and give the students a chance to catch up. So thoughtful of them right? Haha. I had a final both Monday and Tuesday, and coming up is two exams on Thursday and one on Friday. My Friday final and first exam on Thursday shouldn't be too difficult, but the other one will be a beast.

I decided that I would try out studying downtown in a coffee house near my spinning studio today. Campus is a distraction because everyone is studying there with limited spaces, and my apartment is always always always a distraction. Lots of excuses to take breaks. Of course knowing my luck, the Cosi I chose is getting their expresso machine fixed today...they said normally when it rains that not many people come in so it was a good chance for them to do it. Plain coffee it is :-/

Looking forward to a delicious Cosi lunch in a bit. Time to get to work, and dive inti this filled to the max 2 inch binder. 2 days until summer :-)
